NICE guidelines booklet for sufferers and carers

| | Comments (0)

I was glad to see that as well as the main guideline, which runs to several hundred pages, NICE have written an easy to read booklet on the most important bits of the guideline. It's particularly aimed at carers and sufferers themselves but I think it's useful for anyone who finds the whole thing a bit overwhelming!

You can either download a copy in .pdf format, for which you'll need a copy of Acrobat Reader (available free from the Adobe website, or ask the nice people at NICE to post you a copy.

It contains clear and easy to follow descriptions of the symptoms of anorexia and bulimia nervosa, and the sort of treatments you might be offered. It will be interesting to see the impact of this on eating disorders services across the UK who are not currently offering the recommended treatments. This is particularly true in the case of bulimia nervosa, where the guidelines clearly specify cognitive behaviour therapy or interpersonal therapy as the treatments of choice.
