Eating Disorders project nominated for award
The Sheffield Eating Disorders in Primary Care Project has been nominated for an Innovation in Primary Care Award by Dr Alison James, GP. The project has already won
The project provides practice nurse run clinics for patients with eating disorders at the University of Sheffield Health Service and Porterbrook Medical Centre (for Sheffield Hallam University). The project is a collaboration between the practices, the Sheffield Eating Disorders Service and South Yorkshire Eating Disorders Association. The aim is to treat patients in primary care where this is possible and thus avoid the need for referral to secondary care.
GPs can vote for the project as overall winner at www.gponline.com as soon as possible, preferably before the end of July. If you are already a member of GP online can vote by sending an e mail voting for 'Innovative clinical care award' Alison James, University health Service, Sheffield.
If the project wins the overall award, the money will be used for research to formally evaluate the model of providing early intervention and guided self-help for people with eating disorders in primary care.
