More on Google Scholar

Matt Webb's weblog 'Interconnected' has an article about Google Scholar. Quote: 'as a way of getting a rapid overview of an area and to perform idle, broad searches, this seems to be a great orthogonal slice through academic space'. I couldn't agree more (see my previous post on Google Scholar).

There is also some discussion on Resource Shelf about how google judges something to be 'scholarly content', which is a good question. This would be a particular issue if searching for certain topics such as those related to sex. I wonder how well google scholar filters out, erm, 'inappropriate' material? A quick search on eating disorders and sexuality seemed safe enough.

Another thing; I am wondering how quickly the database is updated when new papers come out. For example, I had a paper out this month which doesn't appear if you search....yet.
